Background-Hans J. Wegner originally sketched the Wing Chair (CH445) in 1960 but was not put into series production until 2006. This timeless classic contains the hallmarks of Wegner's best work - calm, clean lines and exceptional comfort. Wegner's genius at combining form and function mean this chair was not just designed for its visual appeal, but as a chair to be used, to be sat in, and to curl up in.
The chair's timeless appeal received a classic innovation award at IMM Cologne 2006, where it was launched.
About the Designer: Hans J. Wegner-Hans J Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. In 1943, he set up his own office in Gentofte and collaborated with Borge Mogensen in the design of an apartment shown at the 1946 Cabinetmakers´ Exhibition in Copenhagen. Throughout his long career, he has designed furniture extensively for Johannes Hansen and Fritz Hansen. The Royal Society of Arts, London made him an Honorary Royal Designers for Industry in 1959.
