Background-
In the 1940s Eero Saarinen developed the pedestal Tulip table, along with the Tulip chair, as part of his research of "organic furniture. The Tulip Table started out with a cast iron base. It came with various tops in laminate, marble or wood, could be round or oval, and was available in various sizes. Today, the base is made of glossy fiberglass same as the chairs. A fabulous table that looks good with any chair, modern or traditional. A beautiful sculpture, a piece of art.
About the Designer: Eero Saarinen-
Eero Saarinen (pronounced [eːro saːrinen]) (August 20, 1910 September 1, 1961) was a Finnish American architect and product designer of the 20th century famous for varying his style according to the demands of the project[citation needed]: simple, sweeping, arching structural curves or machine-like rationalism. Saarinen first received critical recognition, while still working for his father, for a chair designed together with Charles Eames for the "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" competition in 1940, for which they received first prize. The "Tulip Chair" became the basis of the seating used on the original Star Trek television series. He designed many important pieces of furniture including the "Grasshopper" lounge chair and ottoman (1946), the "Womb" chair and ottoman (1948), the "Womb" settee (1950), side and arm chairs (1948-1950), and his most famous "Tulip" or "Pedestal" group (1956), which featured side and arm chairs, dining, coffee and side tables, as well as a stool. His Womb chair and ottoman, as well as his "Tulip" collection, have remained in production and are considered iconic.

A very cool and modern iconic table. The tulip fiberglass table was exactly what we were looking for. Also purchased the tulip chairs from evinco to complete the set. Looks great alone but even better together. Were thrilled.

STURDY
I was really surprised with how sturdy this tulip table is. I was a little hesitant before but was assured by the sales rep there would be no issues. I was assured correctly and am very happy.
The Eero Saarinen Tulip series features either a marble or fiberglass top. Marble can be selected in either black or white marble, and the base comes in white or black. The molded fiberglass can be selected in either black, white, or red.
